Marianne Balin is a philanthropy professional, community relations manager and educator with over 20 years of experience in health care, business and non-profit settings. A public health educator Marianne served the San Francisco Public Health Department between 1983 and 1996 as Director of Patient Education and Community Relations at San Francisco General Hospital and as Marketing Director for Community Health Network of San Francisco. Marianne Balin has worked for the past decade to promote a workplace response to domestic violence. Recognized as a pioneer in this area she has framed key elements of a workplace response, creating and promulgating best practices. She has also served as a program officer for a large corporate foundation directing over $7 million to prevent and reduce domestic violence in California. Ms. Balin has been a board member and officer of many community organizations including the Statewide California Coalition for Battered Women, Partners Ending Domestic Abuse, and the Central American Refugee Center. Ms Balin has been a board member since 2002.
Ms. Hessol is an epidemiologist and Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacy & Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. She has over 25 years professional experience in Public Health including work in environmental and occupational health, perinatal outcomes research, and infectious disease epidemiology. She worked for the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) for seven years and continues to collaborate with the SFDPH. Ms. Hessol has a B.A. from Hampshire College and M.S.P.H. from UCLA. She serves on the Editorial Board of the journal AIDS and is also a member of the Society of Epidemiologic Research and the American Public Health Association. Ms. Hessol has been a member of SFPHF Board of Directors since 2002 and is the Secretary of the Board of Directors.
Mr. Widjaja is a Portfolio Manager at Symphony Asset Management, LLC. Prior to joining Symphony, Mr. Widjaja was Manager of Finance at Wine.com, an analyst in investment banking at Robertson, Stephens & Co. and an analyst at Accenture. He is the co-founder of Fundamental Applied Biology, a startup launched at Stanford University. Mr. Widjaja holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley, and he received an M.B.A. from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. Mr. Widjaja joined the Board of Directors of SFPHF in 2003.
Daniel A. Cody is an Attorney with Reed Smith, LLP in San Francisco. Prior to joining the San Francisco branch of the law firm, Mr. Cody was with the Washington, D.C. branch of the firm. In his capacity of Attorney, Mr. Cody councils and advises clients made up of a wide range of health entities concerning a wide range of matters including complex Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and coverage issues. In addition to council for clients in federal and state corporate practice, he councils clients regarding compliance and investigations involving federal and state fraud and abuse law. Prior to his current position, Mr. Cody was an administrator and legal Intern with the National Health Law Program, a public interest law firm in Washington, D.C. Mr. Cody received His Juris Doctor from William and Mary School of Law. He has been a board member since 2005.
Dr. Gomez is Director, Health Equity Initiatives, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs & Professor, Department of Health Education at the University of California, San Francisco. . She has been with the University since 1991. Prior to her various positions at UC San Francisco, she worked in a variety of health positions in several cities in Massachusetts. Dr. Gomez is widely published and serves with many national, regional, state and locals organizations and associations. She received her B.A. in psychology from Boston University, her Ed.M. in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard University and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Boston University.
Dr. Gomez recently joined the Foundation’s board of directors in 2007.
Ms. Kronenberg is the SFDPH Deputy Director of Health for Administration and Policy. She has been with the Health Department for 13 years, serving in a number of capacities including Director of External Affairs, Public
Information Officer and Liaison to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. Prior to working with SFDPH, Ms. Kronenberg was the Director of the San Francisco Mayor's Criminal Justice Council from 1991-94. Ms. Kronenberg
was appointed to the state Board of Podiatric Medicine in 1998 and served as the President and Vice President during her 6 year tenure. She chairs the Board of Supervisor's Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Task Force. Ms. Kronenberg serves as the representative from SFDPH Director's Office to SFPHF Board of Directors.

Danielle Nolan is a Sales & Marketing Executive with Ernst & Young, LLP.
Ms Nolan has an extensive marketing background working with major companies that include General Electric & Toshiba America Information Systems. She has her Bachelors degree inn Economics and Political Science and a MBA from University of California, Irvine. Ms Nolan volunteer work includes Environmental Travel Companions, Team In Training - Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly. Ms. Nolan joined the Foundation's board of directors in 2006.
Mr. O'Malley is recently retired from 27 years of service with SFPHD. He began his work with the SFDPH as a Public Health Counselor/Advisor and retired as the Health Program Coordinator for the HIV Preventive Clinical Trials Program. Prior to his career with SFDPH, Mr.O'Malley served four years in the United States Air Force as a Communicable Disease Counselor, Occupational Medicine Inspector and an Environmental Health Inspector. He received his B.A. degree in Biology at Massachusetts State College. He is presently a volunteer with San Francisco Public School Tutoring Program, Back on Track Child Tutoring Program, Project Open Hand/HIV Services, HIV Vaccine Trials Network Community Advisory Board, and Food Runners Organization. Mr.O'Malley has been a board member of SFPHF since 2002.
Dr. Tierney is the Deputy Executive Director of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. From 2000 to2005, he was director of HIV Prevention with the San Francisco Department of Health for five years. He has held several positions related to Health and HIV issues since 1993. Dr. Tierney has been a lecturer and Instructor with the Graduate Schools at Northeastern University, Boston University and San Francisco State University and an instructor for the HIV Certificate Program at San Francisco City College. Dr. Tierney earned his Ed.D. from Northeastern University and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy from Boston University. Dr. Tierney joined the board of and currently represents the Health Commission on the Board of Directors of SHPHF.
Ms. Newkirk has been the Executive Director of SFPHF since its inception in 1990. Her primary career was as Executive Director with five YWCAs for 28 years. Before semi-retiring, she held interim executive positions with six other nonprofit organizations. As a consultant, Ms. Newkirk coordinated the San Francisco Liz Claiborne Domestic Violence Public Awareness Campaign, facilitated board and staff development, held training and strategic planning sessions, and coordinated small and medium sized special events. She received her B.S. in Social Work and Psychology at Fresno State College and her M.S. in Planning/Community Development from Lone Mountain College. She has been a volunteer for many nonprofit agencies including the Board of Directors of the United Way of the Bay Area.
